The Girl in the Fog: Donato Carrisi is trying too hard: the non-linear structure turns out to be confusing, most characters seem to have, at most times, disreputable methods and a hidden agenda, which further muddies the water. The combination of those two end up making the pace of the film drag, as neither it’s suspenseful enough nor it allows for any connection with the characters to flourish. The film is, nevertheless, very moody, thanks to the film’s isolated location, cinematographer Federico Masiero high-contrast, low-intensity lighting, and composer Vito Lo Re`s musical score. The acting is OK, further reinforcing the heavy, dark feeling; Toni Servillo is fine as the man slowly losing control of the game he is playing.
Spot-on summary. Would have enjoyed a more elaborate breakdown, however.
