About the blog

The title of this blog, I confess, is as poetic as it is imprecise.

Its origin is rather “continental”, as the “Settima arte” expression, coined by Riccioto Canudo, is not as widespread in the English language as it is elsewhere.

As the intent of this space is (mostly) for me to write about movies, I adapted from Hegel when looking for a name. That’s where the “Fifth” part comes in; I’m not making poetry, but that is certainly closer than the alternatives. (“Writing about Movies”, is, however precise, rather dull.)

Most of what will be seen in this space are short thoughts about every movie that I watch. Some of them will be very short, as not every film inspires me to write a lot. I avoid spoilers, and will not pad my thoughts with a synopsis; those can be found elsewhere, I’m sure. Remember that, while the assertiveness might suggest objectivity, art is in the eye of the beholder. Feel free to share your own thoughts.
