Deaf: delicate and touching, Eva Libertad’s drama follows a deaf woman married to a hearing man as she gets pregnant; whether their child will be deaf or hearing is yet unknown, and that fact will impact how both of them relate to the kid. The film is keen on the fact that, however the child turns out, the relationship between the adults and the child may be impacted; it’s also rather non-judgemental of their reactions. Miriam Garlo, herself a deaf actress, plays beautifully the role of an independent, fully functional woman; Álvaro Cervantes plays her loving husband, whom nobody can blame for trying to be a perfect father. Cinematographer Gina Ferrer shoots the film beautifully, and editor Marta Velasco gives it quite a nice pace, but the highlight below-the-line is the sound team.
