Fifth about The Seventh

Case 137 (Dossier 137)

Case 137: Dominik Moll’s competent police procedural follows an internal affairs investigation of the shooting of a young yellow-vest protester in Paris, in what seems to be an example of police brutality. As is generally the case with procedurals, character development takes a back seat, but the protagonist faces enough of a conundrum to make it interesting. Spearheading the effort is a serious police inspector, a divorced mother who understands that she is unliked both for being a cop and for being a “cop of cops”; it’s a quiet, very effective turn by Léa Drucker. The supporting performances, in general, follow the same key and are appropriately low-key. The film has a gritty look and fine work by cinematographer Patrick Ghiringhelli. Editor Laurent Rouan gives it a good, no-nonsense pace.
