Fifth about The Seventh

Damned If You Do, Damned If You Don’t (Come Ti Muovi, Sbagli)

Damned If You Do, Damned If You Don’t: Gianni Di Gregorio’s light, solar dramedy tells the story of a retired teacher whose life gets turned sideways when his daughter and two grandkids move into his Roman apartment. The protagonist is an affable, accommodating man with a clear love for his family members, but his attitude keeps the stakes very low for everybody. The film is, as a result, pleasurable but exceedingly fluffy. Di Gregorio himself plays the protagonist in a sweet and quiet performance; Greta Scarano plays his daughter, convincingly distraught. Visually, the film is very charming, with nicely decorated interiors (by production designer Isabella Angelini) and cinematographer Maurizio Calvesi capturing it all with a golden hue that helps immensely in giving the film its gentle tone.
