Fifth about The Seventh

Hotel Amor

Hotel Amor: Hermano Moreira’s comedy takes place fully in a Lisbon hotel, where an overworked manager has one hell of a day, mostly because the new ownership sent someone to watch over her shoulder. The film zigzags through a crew of unprofessional workers and bizarre guests, none of whom gets to be developed any longer than a 4-word sentence. The episodes are mildly funny, but they never amount to much. The cast is fine, doing comic work with one-dimensional characters; Jessica Athayde, as the workaholic protagonist, gets a bit more of a chance to shine. Out of the supporting cast, Igor Regalla, as an inflexible and passionate chef, is the funniest. The film is conceived as a faux single take (not hiding its cut points and including the passage of time a few times) in a solid piece of workmanship by director of photography Otavio Pupo (and his team) and editor André Magri.
