In Bed with Victoria: everything that happens with the protagonist of Justine Triet’s film seems to be a bit larger-than-life, and that seems to inform some of the aesthetic choices, namely the jumpy, busy editing work of Laurent Sénéchal and the in-your-face musical cues. That makes the film feel somewhat odd, but ultimately one cannot but hope for the happiness of the single-mother lawyer, gamely played by the luminous Virginie Efira. Vincent Lacoste plays a former client of hers that gets involved in her affairs with a bit too little energy; he forms the opposite of her high-energy character, but he is swallowed by her nevertheless. Cinematographer Simon Beaufils gives the film a solar hue that matches the material nicely.
