Fifth about The Seventh

The Crusade (La Croisade)

The Crusade: Louis Garrel’s little film is a sweetly utopic ode to those with crazy, or not so crazy, ideas to save the environment and are fighting the good fight. The story follows a couple who finds out their son is part of one group trying what they can to save the planet they will inherit. It is naïve, maybe, but the film knows it is. The film is very tight, breezing through its runtime. Laetitia Casta and Garrel play the parents efficiently, going from utter surprise to pride. Joseph Engel plays the young idealist well, very charming and showing the smarts required. The film has efficient aesthetics, that get the work done, particularly the incredibly well-decorated apartment where so much of the action takes place.
