Fifth about The Seventh

Death in Sarajevo (Smrt u Sarajevu)

Death in SarajevoDeath in Sarajevo: Danis Tanović’s film is, no easy feat, at the same time quite informative (academic, even) and entertaining, a rich portrait of a time and place (or a place over a long period of time). It portrays well its large gallery of characters, despite the tight run-time; the dialogue is spellbinding, read quite well. The whole large cast is in fine shape, a true ensemble as no one is truly upstaged by a castmate. Erol Zubčević’s camerawork is very attractive: the camera is agile, its movements elegant as it follows the characters around the space.
