California: Marina Person threads delicately in telling this story; it touches, but barely lingers in many themes, setting the film in its time period without distracting from the characters and their relationships. The result is an unassuming crowd-pleaser. Clara Gallo gives a subtle, endearing performance as the main character and her chemistry with Caio Horowicz is palpable; it is, however, Caio Blat that comes up on top. Production design is strong (and doesn’t call undue attention to itself); the well-chosen soundtrack is also an important element of the film.
