Nino – A Film About Nino Rota: Nino Rota, the subject of Walter Fasano’s documentary, composed the most beautiful musical score in cinema history (The Godfather, for those keeping track), as well as a great number of other iconic scores. Rota, however, led a relatively quiet, uneventful life, so his trajectory had many nice anecdotes, but the insights weren’t particularly deep or interesting. The film touches on, but doesn’t really explore, a juicy morsel that could say more about him. The film, edited by Fasano himself, mixes talking heads, all appropriately respectful and loving, with some archival footage. Sting narrates the piece, and his soothing voice is a great choice. In any case, the real star is Rota’s music.
