The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009)

January 7, 2013 by Felipe Rosa

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: I understand that adapting a big, fact-packed book is a hard thing. But the movie has no character whatsoever, just cardboard figures jumping from one plot point to another badly-connected plot point.

The African Queen

January 7, 2013 by Felipe Rosa

The African Queen: Huston, Katie, Bogie.. Does it really get much better than this? And wow, the Blu-ray looks absolutely awesome!! Very close to a perfect night of entertainment.

Kansas City Confidential

January 7, 2013 by Felipe Rosa

‎‎‎Kansas City Confidential: another neat noir, if a bit too round in some edges. Still, fun to watch.

Pickup on South Street

January 7, 2013 by Felipe Rosa

Pickup on South Street: rough and tough noir. Who said a movie can’t be made with unsympathetic heroes, and well? And how could you go wrong with Thelma Ritter?

Alice in Wonderland

January 7, 2013 by Felipe Rosa

Alice in Wonderland: still not sold on this whole 3D thing. Visually I like it, but the story is a bit lacking. It’s not too bad as a re-reading, I suppose.

Green Zone

January 7, 2013 by Felipe Rosa

Green Zone: decent action-thriller, but I don’t think it brings much new as far as story goes or as style goes.

Bright Star

January 7, 2013 by Felipe Rosa

Bright Star: in a movie where I can’t see the connection between the characters that are supposed to be in love, it’s hard for me to say anything works. I saw more reason for his friend, Brown, to be in despair than Fanny.

Shutter Island

January 7, 2013 by Felipe Rosa

‎‎Shutter Island: still trying to wrap my mind around it. I can’t say I liked it, nor that I disliked it. Some lovely camera movements, anyway!

Un Prophète

January 7, 2013 by Felipe Rosa

Un Prophète: at last a movie that survives the hype. Very solid. This is how gangster/prison movies should be done. The one thing I’m not quite a fan of is the whole thing that gives the film its name.
