Unstoppable (2010)

January 9, 2013 by Felipe Rosa

‎‎‎‎‎‎Unstoppable: a small-scale disaster movie, and that’s smallness is that makes it more enjoyable compared to the usual Earth-destroying metheor or volcano crap. Well, that and a better than average cast. It made me wonder, however: the final solution is so obvious, why not try it before? I was thinking that the whole time, which subtracted from the movie.

Morning Glory (2010)

January 9, 2013 by Felipe Rosa

‎Morning Glory: yet another case where you know exactly what you’re getting (which is something cute but common) and is neither surprised nor disappointed in the process.

The Next Three Days

January 9, 2013 by Felipe Rosa

The Next Three Days: the movie is certainly less urgent than both the title and the trailer would suggest. By the other hand, not much is gained by that increased ponderousness. So, what’s the point? I should not be surprised by being left cold by a movie directed by Paul Haggis, anyway.

Due Date

January 9, 2013 by Felipe Rosa

Due Date: comedies are hard to criticize, because if you laugh, the other elements can be thrown overboard. Well, it was not the case this time. So the absence of laughs just makes it clear that this film brings nothing to the genre of buddy-road comedy. What a waste of the cast.

Robin Hood (2010) – Revisit

January 9, 2013 by Felipe Rosa

Robin Hood: still decent enough, but even now I can’t shake the feeling it’s a prequel to a movie that I would, in all likelyhood, enjoy more. It just feels generic. See what I wrote previously: Robin Hood

Life as We Know It

January 9, 2013 by Felipe Rosa

‎‎‎Life as We Know It: it’s silly, but it’s supposed to be silly. It had some nice things to be said about friendship, way down deep under the music cues.

The Last of the Mohicans (1992)

January 9, 2013 by Felipe Rosa

The Last of the Mohicans: while the production values remain great to this day, this movie has a stiffness to it that I didn’t remember. Some of the battle scenes, the story developments, the character motivations, all seem a bit forced, unnatural.

Stone (2010)

January 9, 2013 by Felipe Rosa

Stone: certainly not the movie I was expecting to see. But I don’t think the actual movie was all that interesting, either. At least it gives Edward Norton the chance to play another interesting character, and he really makes it look easy.

3:10 to Yuma (2007)

January 9, 2013 by Felipe Rosa

3:10 to Yuma: it’s a decent actioner, and it’s always nice to see a Western, particularly when it’s well done and has two of the best actors working today as the leads. They have been more challenged elsewhere, however. There is some inconsistency of character that bothered me and kept me from liking it more.
