Fifth about The Seventh

Possible Love (Ganeunghan Sarang)

Possible Love: LEE Chang-dong’s thematically rich drama follows two couples from opposite sides of the track; one of them is composed of two blue-collar workers, the other of two affluent dilettantes. The wives become friends as the budding documentary-maker decides to interview the factory worker (as well as her husband) for her new work. As much as they pretend it to be, this is not a balanced relationship, and it’s in the investigation of those imbalances that this film finds its thematic power. Acting is superb: JEON Do-yeon plays the blue-collar woman as a balancing act between coveting and self-preservation; SUL Kyung-gu, as her husband, is a ball of very repressed anger; CHO Yeo-jeong, as the glamorous documentary-maker, sells a very different sort of desire; and ZO In-sung, as her husband, is the picture of someone at ease in his own skin. The film is well-shot by cinematographer KIM Ji-yong and beautifully scored by composer JUNG Jae-il.
