Fifth about The Seventh

Iron Boy (Le Corset)

Iron Boy: Louis Clichy’s lovely animated film follows an eleven-year-old boy, son of farmers, who has a weak spine and needs to wear an iron brace full-time. Despite the hardships, he manages to make the best of it, gaining new interests and new friends. It’s very easy to root for the protagonist, who wants his own life but is nevertheless generous with his family. Gary Clichy plays him nicely, with a good range of emotions. Dimitri Colas plays his father, a hard man not without love. Brune Moulin plays a tomboyish new friend. The animation is stylized, with thick lines and vivid, blocky colouring; it’s different and attractive. Characters are designed distinctly, and the environment is likewise pleasing to look at. Music plays an important role in the story and the film, and the extensive use of the church organ is quite a good choice.
