Fifth about The Seventh

Everyone’s Sorry Nowadays (Tegenwoordig heet iedereen Sorry)

Everyone’s Sorry Nowadays: this family drama by Frederike Migom follows a 13-year-old girl for a Summer day: her divorced parents don’t really understand her and give all their attention and energy to her ailing brother. A chance to meet a soap-opera actress she adores may just be what she needs to change. The protagonist is engaging, despite her proclivity for emotional outbursts, which she balances with constant fantasizing and reliving some memories. It is a winning performance by young Lisa Vanhemelrijck, who finds the right balance for her character. Laurence Roothooft nicely plays her mother, balancing exasperation and care. Sachli Gholamalizad gives warmth to the role of the protagonist’s adored idol. Editor Christine Houbiers and cinematographer Esmoreit Lutters create a visually pleasing film, with an easy pace, managing to never create confusion between fantasy and reality.
