Another Day: the protagonist of Jeanne Herry’s drama is a happy, mostly functional, staunch, and unapologetic alcoholic; she is also a struggling actor, going through the pains of dead-end relationships and small, disappointing gigs. It’s not unexpected that the bill for so much drinking becomes, at some point, overdue. Delicate, non-judgemental and humane, the film hardly breaks new ground, but it’s rather effective at what it tries to do. Adèle Exarchopoulos plays the protagonist quite beautifully: the character is full of life, fully conscious but incapable of dealing with her own shortcomings. Sara Giraudeau plays someone she meets along the way in a delicate performance. The performances, and the film, are naturalistic, devoid of showboating. Editor Laurence Briaud gives the film a fluid pace, where time passes and her situation evolves without any rigidity.
