Fifth about The Seventh

Silvia Prieto

Silvia Prieto: much like its eponymous protagonist, Martín Rejtman’s film goes from nothing to nowhere. A minimalist and absurdist comedy, the characters are generally unengaging, and the situations are not particularly interesting. The protagonist, on the day she turns 27, decides to change her life; it’s hard to imagine what her old life was, but her new life is still uneventful and dull, as are those of the many people she crosses paths with. All the performances are subdued; Rosario Bléfari plays the lost protagonist, Marcelo Zanelli, her ex, Valeria Bertuccelli, his new girlfriend, and Gabriel Fernandez Capello closes this square dance as her ex and the protagonist’s new affair. It may sound confusing, but it’s all meaningless. The film is visually uninteresting, with broken-down apartments and C-side Buenos Aires making up most of the locations.
