Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry: Elene Naveriani’s serene drama tells the story of an independent middle-aged woman, a convenience store owner. At 48, she never married and lives her life as she wishes, much to the chagrin of her so-called friends and neighbours in a small rural Georgian village; everything changes when she falls in love with a man. The protagonist is played by Eka Chavleishvili, whose stern face hides a softer core; it’s a gentle, subtle performance that invites empathy. Temiko Chichinadze plays her beau in another quietly effective performance. Visually simple, with competent camerawork by director of photography Agnesh Pakozdi; production designer Teo Baramidze creates strikingly simple interiors simply by the use of strong colours.
