The Visitor: Martín Boulocq’s simple, quiet film hides a good and touching story of a man who gets out of jail and tries to rebuild his life and rekindle the relationship with his estranged daughter. The protagonist is fascinating, a hard-working man and loving father and son who, nevertheless, must fight both the stigma of his past and the economic power of his in-laws. The film, alas, feels rushed as it gets near the end. Enrique Araoz plays the protagonist very effectively, and he has a lovely singing voice as well. César Troncoso and Mirella Pascual play well, respectively, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, both important religious figures in their community. Cinematographer Germán Nocella shoots the film with a very classical camera, which serves the film well enough.
