Un + Une: Claude Lelouch’s romantic film is mostly about the near endless dance the two main characters do around each other; they chat as if they are trying to convince not only each other but main themselves that a relationship is what they want. The dialogue isn’t uninteresting, but neither it is very decisive. In any case, the backdrop, a spiritual journey through India, helps the film as it gives it more color, literally and figuratively. The two main characters are interesting and well-performed by Elsa Zylberstein, as the spiritual wife, and Jean Dujardin, as the unapologetic womanizer musical star of sorts. The film generally looks good but indifferent; Francis Lai’s musical score, however, perfectly accentuates the budding romance.
