Fifth about The Seventh

If I Were a Boy (Si J’Étais un Homme)

If I Were a Boy: it is hard to fathom what Audrey Dana was aiming at with her film: the concept is tired and has been done much more effectively elsewhere, the comedy is unfunny, the characters are far from interesting or sympathetic, the ideas are maimed by the simplistic and cliched views of gender. Acting is at best unremarkable: Dana, who plays the protagonist, is uneven, somewhat heavy-handed with some mannerisms at times. Alice Belaïdi, Christian Clavier, Eric Elmosnino are all generally indifferent. Aesthetically, the film is also ordinary, common: that goes for the camerawork of cinematographers Berto and Nicolas Brunet, music, and editing.
