A Hologram for the King: Tom Tykwer’s film tries to handle too many different storylines, and ultimately does so inefficiently. They wrap in a rush, and while it’s factually clear what happened, the film ends up being, on some level, confusing (it feels like the editor Alexander Berner had to cut down from a much longer film, one that deals better with all the situations). Acting is fine; Tom Hanks is in good shape defending his character’s earnestness, displaying decent chemistry with Sarita Choudhury, while Alexander Black shows good comedic chops. Cinematographer Frank Griebe captures beautifully the gorgeous locations.
