Velvet Goldmine: Todd Haynes follows a prestigious, well-known blueprint to tell this energetic story, but still manages to make something that is engaging; the story is interesting on its own right, but the non-linear structure makes it even more so. The four main actors in the cast (Toni Collette, Ewan McGregor, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and Christian Bale) are all very good in their roles. The film is also visually very interesting, first and foremost Maryse Alberti’s camerawork capturing the very colorful costumes designed by Sandy Powell. The excellent soundtrack is a show unto itself.
