Brooklyn: more important than how new an story is, is how well it’s told. That’s the case in John Crowley’s film: the plot may be known and the narrative, as classic as can be, but it’s heartfelt, delicate, enchanting and engaging. The cast is in very fine shape: Jim Broadbent is a sweet presence, and Saoirse Ronan is quietly magnetic. Yves Bélanger’s camerawork captures the beautiful set and costume design with lovely hues (in spite of the choice of camera technique not matching the film all that well). Nice score by Michael Brook as well.
