Casting a ballot – SAG Awards 2015

SAG AwardsThe 22nd Screen Actors Guild Awards (Check the nominees’ full list at the SAG website), which will be presented on January 30th, 2016, are the next big guild awards to be handed out.Again, I’m not a member of any of the guilds (or AMPAS, for that matter), hence the word fictional. I blame the local distributors for not watching quite a few of the films, but since the ballot is fictional, I’ll abstain if  haven’t seen the majority of the nominees.

So, to what matters:

Best Stunt Ensemble: Mad Max: Fury Road

Mad Max Fury RoadThe whole film is one impressive stunt after the other.

Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role: Rooney Mara (Therese Belivet in Carol)

Rooney Mara is subtle and touching, and displays great screen chemistry with her castmates.

Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role: Mark Rylance (Rudolf Abel in Bridge of Spies)

Mark Rylance SAGAwards

Mark Rylance brings a quiet dignity to this role; he doesn’t have showy moments, but neither does he need them.

Best Female Actor in a Leading Role: abstain

Best Male Actor in a Leading Role: Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs in Steve Jobs)

Michael Fassbender may or may not resemble Steve Jobs, but he creates a beautifully complex character and reads the quick, mesmerizing dialogue perfectly.

Best Cast: Beasts of No Nation

Beasts of No NationThis cast is largely unknown, and with a great number of young, untested performers; it doesn’t really matter, as the acting is intense and of the highest caliber (in particular by the two leading names, the excellent Abraham Attah and Idris Elba).
