Fifth about The Seventh

Secret in Their Eyes

Secret in their EyesSecret in Their Eyes: Billy Ray’s thriller ends up having too many moving parts poorly connected to engage (the characters’relationships) or thrill (the criminal investigation) much; it doesn’t raise the bars to a point where there’s a reason to fear the outcome (which is a direct result of an uninteresting and weak villain to start with). It’s a strong cast, and other than one crucial scene early on (when Julia Roberts and Chiwetel Ejiofor overdo their performances), they are solid, considering the paper-thin characters they play. Daniel Moder’s camerawork is conventional, safe, boring.
