How to Train Your Dragon

How to Train Your Dragon: color me surprised, DreamWorks actually can make animated movies with heart instead of dated jokes.

The Secret in Their Eyes
by Felipe Rosa
The Secret in Their Eyes: beautiful movie. Nice story, great acting (Ricardo Darin is always wonderful), well-shot (if a bit flashy), good music. Very good morning again.

Infernal Affairs
by Felipe Rosa
Infernal Affairs: at the end of the day, I would say it’s about the same level as The Departed. There is a sense of dread on watching this different movie when you know the end, pretty much. Or maybe the dread is on me, I don’t know. Anyway, I think the first scene is a mistake, and I miss the character of Mark Whalberg.

Brick
by Felipe Rosa
Brick: I remember reading about this movie when it came out and wanting to see it. Well, I should have. Very solid: loved the dialogues, the story, (most of) the shots. Very Hammett-ian indeed!

Black Angel (1946)

Black Angel: decent “noirish”. You can’t go much wrong with Peter Lorre, that’s for sure.

Greenberg
by Felipe Rosa
Greenberg: meh. It’s not so much that the main character is unpleasant (which he is), but that he is so uninteresting on his unpleasantness. As everybody else in the movie.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009)
by Felipe Rosa
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: I understand that adapting a big, fact-packed book is a hard thing. But the movie has no character whatsoever, just cardboard figures jumping from one plot point to another badly-connected plot point.

The African Queen
by Felipe Rosa
The African Queen: Huston, Katie, Bogie.. Does it really get much better than this? And wow, the Blu-ray looks absolutely awesome!! Very close to a perfect night of entertainment.

Kansas City Confidential
by Felipe Rosa
Kansas City Confidential: another neat noir, if a bit too round in some edges. Still, fun to watch.
