House of the Wind: Auguste Bernard Kouemo Yanghu’s film tells the story of an old lady; she lives by herself in Cameroon’s capital since her children all left for Europe in the hope of a better life. She gets close to a young woman who is being shunned by her own family. The protagonist is a force of nature, a woman who can be harsh, but all she needs is a bit of human connection; it’s a well-defended role by Josette Kwanya. Her new friend, played by Moudjeu Pouadeu, has her own needs but fills that role sincerely. The film, shot by director of photography Eva Sehet, is simple but effective. The traditional, colourful garments used by the protagonist are beautiful. A pleasurable, touching little film.
