Three Colors: White: Krzysztof Kieślowski’s entertaining film blends genres (family drama, dark comedy); it follows a Polish hairdresser forced into a divorce by his French wife. His adventures take him back to his homeland, and his unwillingness to let it go is what makes this interesting. Zbigniew Zamachowski plays the protagonist, a man lost in a situation not of his choosing who slowly finds his way out. Janusz Gajos plays another Polish man he meets along the way, and Julie Delpy plays his beautiful ex-wife. The performances are all effective. The musical score, by Zbigniew Preisner, is beautiful, alternating, as the story requests, between sad and triumphant moments. Cinematographer Edward Kłosiński shoots it beautifully, incorporating white whenever he can. Editor Urszula Lesiak gives the film a good pace.
