Fifth about The Seventh

Revenge (2018)

Revenge: the storyline of Coralie Fargeat’s thriller is as straightforward as its title: a young woman is left for dead by her married boyfriend and some friends, but she is not too keen on their idea and decides to get her, well, revenge. Extremely generous with blood, gore, and the human body (both male and female), the film is a visual spectacle, also making great use of its locations, both the isolated house where it all starts and the surrounding desert (the cinematographer is Robrecht Heyvaert). Matilda Lutz plays the protagonist, a sexpot who becomes a force of nature; her acting is a bit iffy at times, but it generally serves its purposes. Kevin Janssens, Vincent Colombe, and Guillaume Bouchède play the trio of slimy guys who definitely had it coming. Co-editors Jerome Eltabet, Bruno Safar, and director Fargeat create tension very efficiently. Composer Robin Coudert’s electronic musical score helps in that regard.
