Fifth about The Seventh

Madly (Follemente)

Madly: Paolo Genovese’s high-concept romantic comedy draws inspiration from a certain Pixar hit as it tells the story of a man and a woman on a first date in her apartment, taking cues from aspects of themselves in their minds. Breezy, unpretentious, and entertaining, the film works based on the charm of the slightly off-matched protagonists, both with just the right amount of baggage to make things interesting. Pilar Fogliati plays the very charming woman with a story of bad love affairs, while Edoardo Leo plays the divorced teacher. Each has almost a veritable battalion in their heads discussing matters, and the eight performers are all funny. Production designer Massimiliano Sturiale creates three detailed and charming environments, and cinematographer Fabrizio Lucci captures them all with simplicity and efficacy; the below-the-line star, however, is editor Consuelo Catucci, who has impeccable comic timing in the cuts.
