Fifth about The Seventh

The Rendez-Vous of Déjà-Vu (La Fille du 14 Juillet)

The Rendez-Vous of Déjà-Vu: the chaotic energy of Antonin Peretjatko’s irreverent and entertaining film hides a sweet love story at its core. Aesthetically and spiritually borrowing from the Nouvelle Vague, the film tells the story of a young man who, in love with a young woman he met on Bastille Day, plans a trip to the beach during the Summer. To say that things don’t go as planned is quite an understatement. The cast is finely tuned to the absurdity of it all: Vimala Pons, as the eponymous girl, and Grégoire Tachnakian, as the young museum guard who falls for her, play it mostly straight and form a nice-looking couple; Vincent Macaigne, as his best friend, is where the zaniness starts, and oh boy does it only lift off from there. Peretjatko co-edits with Carole Le Page, keeping things lively and interesting. Music, by composers Thomas de Pourquery and Julien Roig, is a good fit.
