Fifth about The Seventh

Wild Diamond (Diamant Brut)

Wild Diamond: Agathe Riedinger’s gritty social drama doesn’t hide that its protagonist, is unpleasant, but it never judges her either. She is a 19-year-old woman with a complicated relationship with her mother, living in a dilapidated area in Southern France; the only way out she sees of her miserable life is to become an influencer and be a part of a reality show. She may be misguided, but she certainly is determined. Malou Khebizi plays her as an ultra-sexualized, perpetually angry teenager who sees everyone and everything in terms of obstacles and opportunities; it’s an energetic turn. Cinematographer Noé Bach’s images are intimate, and close to the subject, an important element to give the film its realism. Editor Lila Desiles keeps the story moving along nicely and the energy high.
