Fifth about The Seventh

My Sole Desire (À Mon Seul Désir)

My Sole Desire: Lucie Borleteau’s film follows a young woman who, without many perspectives, starts working in a strip club and forms relationships with other workers there, particularly another young dancer. Refreshing for being so non-judgemental and earnest, the film navigates aptly the dangerous waters of sex work and the dichotomy between sex and love. The two protagonists are lovely, lively, ambitious in their own way, talented, and well played by Zita Hanrot, as the veteran, and Louise Chevillotte, as the newcomer. The other performances are fine. Cinematographer Alexis Kavyrchine uses a lot of colour in his lights due to the liberal portrayal of striptease performances, and the film is pleasing to the eye. Editor Clémence Diard keeps the film moving along and makes good use of music.
