Fifth about The Seventh

The Sitting Duck (La Syndicaliste)

The Sitting Duck: Jean-Paul Salomé’s political thriller tells one of those stories that, on paper, sound too preposterous, except they turn out to actually be true. It follows a trade unionist who, during an investigation which she is running inside her company, is assaulted when in her home. Or is she? The film is about that as much as it is about the double standards when dealing with a female victim. The protagonist, however well played by Isabelle Huppert she is and however worthy her fight is, never gets very relatable: she is too cold and feisty; her husband is played by an affable Grégory Gadebois, who rarely has more to do than nod in support of her. The musical score, by composer Bruno Coulais, does a great job of enhancing the tension throughout. Editors Valérie Deseine and Aïn Varet keep the story moving and build the tension nicely.
