Fifth about The Seventh

The Miseducation of Cameron Post

The Miseducation of Cameron Post: Desiree Akhavan’s drama is a well-meaning, but ultimately shallow and paint-by-the-numbers look at gay conversion therapy. There is little to no sense of character at all, certainly no proper development, and the film turns out to be too forgiving with the “well-meaning” bigotry at its center (one measly line of dialogue being the exception). Acting is unremarkable: Chloë Grace Moretz is handed an empty shell and can’t quite make anything happen with the character; Sasha Lane fares better, because she is at least allowed to be more colorful; most other performers are not even given enough time to shine. Aesthetically, the film is likewise unremarkable.
