Fifth about The Seventh

Like Father (2018)

Like Father: Lauren Miller Rogen plays it very safe with this comedic drama; there’s not much risk or new in the characters presented or their dramas, but there is also some welcome earnestness to it, so that simplicity ends up matching well the story. The two central performers are old pros and play well the easy characters: Kristen Bell cuts a good figure and convinces as the competitive, workaholic daughter, and plays well off Kelsey Grammer, who likewise owns the role of the father. The supporting cast is varied, and the comedy is toned down. Aesthetically, the film is likewise safe, unadorned, and ultimately unremarkable.
