Fifth about The Seventh

Oh Lucy!

Oh Lucy!: the main issue with Hirayanagi Atsuko’s drama is that the main character is abrasive and uninteresting, therefore hard to connect from the get go; on top of that, most aspects of the (literal and figurative) journey are unconvincing, as if the motivations were for some reason left out of the film. The performances are serviceable: Terajima Shinobu is stuck with an unpleasant character, but manages it well; Josh Hartnett is charmingly clueless; the strongest of the bunch, in spite of the short role, is Yakusho Kooji, very touching. Visually, the film is generally unremarkable, with dull locations from both sides of the Pacific.
