Fifth about The Seventh

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005)

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang: Shane Black’s satirical hard-boiled detective story may become too smart for its own good sometimes, but that doesn’t make it any less entertaining. The story is convoluted in steroids, but it wears its inspiration on its sleeves (and chapter names); the voice-over narration is a tad too self-referential, but very funny, as is the witty dialogue. Jim Page’s smart editing is an important element, making use of a lot of tricks, and keeping the pace snappy. The cast is in good form: Robert Downey Jr. is perfect as the over-his-head multi-disciplinary wannabe; Val Kilmer is likewise fine, in the quietest, driest (but not less hilarious) performance of the trio; Michelle Monaghan is a great mix of attractive, smart and damaged.
