your name.: the first natural instinct with Makoto Shinkai’s lovely animation is immediately trying to make head-or-tails of the story; that may subtract from the experience, as a rational explanation (as far as they go with such mindbenders) comes at a leisurely pace. The two protagonists are very likeable, and that makes the emotional journey very rewarding. The voice acting of Ryûnosuke Kamiki and Mone Kamishiraishi is charming and attractive. The animation is, simply put, gorgeous: the characters are beautifully designed and animated, all of them very distinctive; the settings are even more impressive, mixing natural landscapes with urbane vistas, both drawn very convincingly. The musical score is also on point.
