Fifth about The Seventh

What Happened to Monday

What Happened to Monday: Tommy Wirkola’s sci-fi thriller has an intriguing idea and the courage to make it drab and violent. However, the story gets going in a rush, and little time is given to get to know the (original title) seven sisters. The film calls for a performer that has the range to perform all the roles and make them distinctive, and Noomi Rapace is not that actress (she resorts to hamminess here and there), which just compounds an issue that started with the writing; she can pull of the physicality of the action scenes but little else. The film manages well the technical aspects of having her multiple times on-screen; the hair and makeup team effectively created the characters that are distinct enough, visually. The low-tech future is credible and well-built by the art team.
