Parker: criminal-against-criminal revenge tales are a dime a dozen, so common it is essentially a sub-genre of action pictures. Taylor Hackford’s film is simply another tired entry that brings nothing new to the table, just recycles tropes ad infinitum. In addition, so many of the character choices make no sense, it raises the feeling of lazy storytelling. Jason Statham in the main role is efficient, but even this choice is obvious, as he is known mostly for this exact sort of anti-hero. Jennifer Lopez is fine, as is Michael Chiklis (another somewhat obvious choice as the villain). The unremarkableness of it extends to the technical aspects: action scenes choreography, cinematography and editing are all pedestrian.
