Fifth about The Seventh

(500) Days of Summer

(500) Days of Summer: Marc Webb’s romantic comedy does not completely avoid the genre’s formula (boy meets girl etc etc), but it nevertheless contains enough elements that bring some freshness to the proceedings, and the result is utterly delightful. The smart non-linear structure (created by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber’s script, enhanced by the fine Alan Edward Bell editing) makes the difference. Acting is spot-on, as well: Zooey Deschanel is a bit aloof, but charming and alluring; Joseph Gordon-Levitt is very good as the male protagonist. Also helping matters tremendously is the very extensive soundtrack, which has some very well-chosen songs, and complements Mychael Danna and Rob Simonsen’s original score.
