The Secret Life of Pets: the starting point of this Chris Renaud and Yarrow Cheney’s animated film is an obvious one (not that it’s a bad thing, on itself): the arrival of a new member to a community that have a life hidden from humans. However, they neglected to create engaging characters, going instead for obnoxious, dull ones (partly, the blame lies on the voice acting; Louis C.K. is OK, but Kevin Hart and Jenny Slate are very annoying), so the results of the broad adventure turn irrelevant. Visually, the character design is fine, if a bit simple; it’s the way they depict New York, however, that is the great highlight here. Alexandre Desplat contributes with a good score.
