For the first time, I’ll be casting a fictional ballot for the American Cinema Editors annual prize, the ACE Eddie Awards.
The 66th Annual ACE Eddie Awards will be presented on January 29th, 2016. The full list of nominees can be seen either on their website or on IMDb.
Worth repeating, I’m not a member of any of the guilds (and even thought I have edited before, I don’t consider myself an editor), hence the word fictional.
Here it goes:
Best Edited Animated Feature Film: Kevin Nolting for Inside Out
The telling of the two paralell stories is tricky; each scene must work both in its own reality and also in relation to each other. The success is undeniable.
Best Edited Feature Film (Comedy): Hank Corwin for The Big Short
Here is a great accomplishment: the inner parts of this tale are complex and at times, hard to grasp. Nevertheless, the film moves at a very smart pace, always managing to be both funny and informative.
Best Edited Feature Film (Dramatic): Margaret Sixel for Mad Max: Fury Road
Here goes a film that is, in essence, a very intense and visually arresting action sequence from beggining to end. It rarely slows down, but when it does, it’s at the right moment.
