Boy and the World: Alê Abreu is a great little gem; its story is deceptively simple, but possesses a strong subtext. The whole film feels as if it was the direct result of the main character’s imagination, in a way. The animation style, therefore, is deceptively simple: at times colorful, at times surprisingly white, but the drawing is always dynamic and bedazzling. The music (by Gustavo Kurlat and Ruben Feffer) matches the animation wonderfully, imprinting an additional layer of childish wonder.
