The Good Dinosaur: Peter Sohn’s film tells a cute, uplifting, but run-of-the-mill story; thematically, it is also very simple. Nothing of this means, of course, that the film doesn’t provide a very pleasurable and entertaining experience, tugging the proper emotional chords. Voice acting is solid without being showy (or memorable). What really stands out, however, is how beautiful the images are, particularly the landscapes; they are varied and realistic-looking. By the other hand, the animation models for the characters (in particular, the dinosaurs) are boring; Spot’s animation, by the other hand, is much more interesting to watch. The music of Jeff and Mychael Danna adds to the whole.
The accompanying short, Sanjay’s Super Team, is a good way to start the film, diverse and quite well-executed.
