Tomorrowland: Brad Bird’s film, for better or for worse, tells a very straightforward story, in spite of the high concept behind it; likewise, the message is simple, clean, almost naïve. Visually, the film follow the same pattern; Claudio Miranda’s images are efficient, attractive even, as are the special effects, but they can’t escape fully a sense of artificiality and shallowness (yes, it shares its nostalgic view of the future with theme park attractions). The cast is adequate, even if not asked for much: Britt Robertson displays enough enchantment and spunk, but George Clooney hits his gruffy notes better.
