His Girl Friday: Howard Hawks creates a delightful comedy; the story has a frantic pace and it is unafraid to be politically incorrect (it makes fun, or worse, of all institution it touches); the characters are all gray, paragons of nothing, therefore more interesting to watch. The exceptionally funny dialogue is lightning-fast, and delivered to perfection by the cast. Rosalind Russell and Cary Grant have chemistry and are both great; Grant even adds a bit of physical comedy as well. Visually, the film is simply serviceable, no more (but there’s no reason to).
